FRED HORN

A little about myself - I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and learned sax from age nine. I've developed a love for Jazz, and later R&B/Funk and Latin music. Thanks to good private and public school teachers and my own efforts, I was able to win a Milwaukee Civic music Award and my high school jazz big band won 1st place. I attended North Texas State University and was knocked out by the level of musicianship of the 1 O'clock Lab Band.
Later I started doing jazz gigs in Madison, Wisconsin and played in the UW jazz big band which won the Notre Dame Jazz Festival. Several players from that band went to Los Angeles and became top musicians there, whereas I went to the San Francisco Bay Area to soak up the jazz being performed, but also got deeply involved with the funk bands which were influenced by Tower Of Power.
Still later - in the late 80's I moved to Los Angeles and was finally able to finish my first CD -Steady Fready Collective Cuts with the help of members of Tower Of Power ; Rocco Prestia on bass, Bruce Conte on guitar and David Garibaldi on drums. My next CD was an acoustic jazz one with a hard swingin' Milwaukee rhythm section, which offered up straight ahead jazz along with even a free jazz tune!
My most current CD: Fred Horn - "Steady Fready's Ready" has 3 cover tunes, including the 80's smash hit: "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" - featuring guitarist Chris Standring and Rippingtons bassist Rico Belled. Also, Tower Of Power trumpet Adolfo Acosta performs on 2 tunes. This CD ranges from cover tunes to original smooth jazz, funk tunes, ballads and even a rap and a country song.
